Process
How did we come up with our mushroom?
We started by discussing what mushroom we wanted to represent. We brainstormed by suggesting multiple ideas such as:
Drawing a single or multiple mushrooms
Representing different types of mushrooms as a metaphor
Using the available material (pens, post-its, paper)
We immediately drew together as we all wanted to put our input on the paper. We wanted to show both unity and diversity through our mushrooms (real, fictional, invented). We drew without judgment and automatically connected all the roots together without needing to explicit it. It was a natural process.
We inverted the process by starting at the end. We first drew the roots as they are the foundation of life, acting as a network.
The pencil lines represent how we approach things from different perspective: some people see life or projects linearly, others in spirals for example.
After we finished with the roots we drew the mushrooms growing on the first layer, from the roots.
Different but connected by our network.
Meaning
What does the mushroom and its root system represent?
We chose to represent the mushrooms from a top view to show them from a different perspective. Indeed, we normally spontaneously draw mushroom from the side.
We used the transparency of the paper to show that by digging deeper we are able to see more than what one can see from the surface, allowing us to uncover the roots or the network effect.
We purposely avoid adding any labels nor text as we wanted to keep it abstract. We wanted to suspend judgement, avoid influencing other people’s perception, and focus on seeing objects as they are.
We represented edibles and lethal mushrooms as sometimes we can offend somebody through toxic behaviour.
The network of our roots makes us stronger through our diversity.
Interpretation
What does it mean for the Master?
We wanted to show that we are all unique while simultaneously connected.
The roots hold the system together and each mushroom play a critical role in it.
We rely on each other to build a strong system.
We embrace the diversity we have in this Master and what each and
As we get to know each other better we will build stronger
